Students in IITs poor quality: Murthy / Solving it
He said the majority of the students fare poorly at jobs
Murthy said it has to be ensured that IITs 'transcend from being just teaching institutions to reasonably good research institutes' at par with Harvard and MIT
Few IITs have done well in producing PhDs

The Infosys mentor also lamented the poor English speaking and social skills of a majority of IIT students, saying with Indian politicians 'rooting against English', the task of getting good English speaking students at IITs gets more difficult.

IIT Schools of Management / JMET to CAT / Link
Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have jointly decided to discontinue the Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) that they conduct for admissions to their post-graduate management degree programmes (MBAs). Instead, admissions to these courses will be based on scores in CAT conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).The decision was taken in order to reduce the burden of multiple tests on students.

Why IITs have Not Gained Critical Mass
IITs have not gained that critical mass to change the global scientific discourse, "It has something to do with the ecosystem."
"If the US spends USD 250 billion dollars on research, India spends USD 8 billion dollars, you cannot create that critical mass. That's not because of faculty," he said.
Despite this In terms of publication too, the rate was 15 to 17 per cent in case of IITs as against the global rate of 4 per cent.
How IITs are World Class With Ranking
25 per cent of the IIT faculty are alumni of the institutes and therefore, must be “world class”.
Premier institutes in the country rank among the top 50 in the global index, with
- IIT Bombay placed at No 21,
- IIT Delhi at 24,
- IIT Kanpur at 37 and
- IIT Madras at 39.

How Most teachers in IITs are inferior to students
Years ago, I was sitting with legendary IIT professor and former director of IIT Madras, PV Indiresan. “Let’s face it,” he told me bluntly, “Most teachers in the IITs are inferior to the students.” Mrs Indiresan, sitting next to him, objected. “You shouldn’t say things like that!” she admonished. “The truth is the truth, so why try to hide it?” insisted Indiresan. “And the reason is simple. Every IIT student is one out of 100 people who took the entrance exams. But the professors are not one out of every 100 applicants for a post.”

IIT Council
The IIT Council is the governing body responsible for all of India's Indian Institutes of Technology. While nominally headed by the President of India, the council functions with complete autonomy. It is composed of representatives from all institutes, as well as a few student members.
